Find out how to pair and charge a PlayStation®Move motion controller on PlayStation®5 consoles and PlayStation®4 consoles.

How to pair your PS Move motion controller

The PS Move controller is compatible with PS5™ consoles and PS4™ consoles. You need to pair your controller if it's your first time using it.

  1. Turn on your PS5 console or PS4 console and set up your PlayStation®Camera.
  2. Connect your PS Move controller to your console using the included USB Mini Type-B cable.
  3. Press the PS button on the PS Move controller.
  • You can use up to four motion controllers at one time. To use two or more PS Move controllers, pair each controller separately.
  • When you play with your PS Move controller, always disconnect the USB cable before use.

How to set up your PlayStation Camera 

Games that require a camera for use with the motion controller will use the PlayStation Camera.

  • PS5 consoles require the PlayStation®Camera adapter to use a PS Camera.
  • The HD Camera for PS5 consoles is not compatible with the PS Move controller.

How to use your PS Move motion controller

Please note, controls and calibration for gameplay will vary from game to game. Follow any on-screen instructions that appear when using your PS Move controllers.

  • Press and hold the T button to use the PS Move controller to navigate menus.
  • Press the Move button or X button to select an item. 
  • To quit a game, press and hold the PS button, and then follow the on-screen instructions.

How to charge your PS Move motion controller

While your PS5 console or PS4 console is on, connect your PS Move controller using the included USB cable to start charging. While charging, your controller's status indicator slowly blinks. When charging is complete, the status indicator turns off.

  • With your PS5 console, you can check your controller's battery level from Accessories in the control center.
  • With your PS4 console, check the battery charge level on the screen by pressing and holding the PS button.
  • You can charge your PS Move controller while your console is in rest mode.

Having issues with your PS Move controller?

If you’re having issues with your controller, often the first troubleshooting step is to reset your controller.

  1. Turn off your PS5 console or PS4 console.
  2. Locate the small reset button on the back of the controller.
  3. Use a pin or similar tool (not included) to press and hold the reset button.
  4. Connect the controller to your PS5 console or PS4 console using the included USB cable, and press the PS button.
  1. Try using another USB cable, connecting the controller directly to the console.
  2. If there's still an issue with the PS Move controller, try resetting the controller.

If your motion controller is not vibrating as expected, check if the controller’s vibration function is on.

  • On PS4 consoles, go to Settings > Devices > Controllers > Enable Vibration.
  • On PS5 consoles, go to Settings > Accessories > Controller (General) > Vibration Intensity

If the controller still experiences issues, try resetting the controller.

  • Try reducing the distance between the controller and the PS Camera.
  • Try to minimize direct sunlight or glare, and reduce the amount of light coming from behind you.
  • Make sure the PS Camera is set up correctly.
  • Make sure you are directly in front of the PS Camera.
  • Try removing any bright lights from your play area.
